West Park Awarded First AA Rosette

West Park Awarded First AA Rosette

Provenance Inns & Hotels are delighted to announce that West Park in Harrogate has been awarded one AA Rosette.

AA Rosettes are awarded solely by AA Hotel and Restaurant Inspectors with no influence from hotels, restaurants or other guides. The long-established and hugely prestigious scheme recognises successful cooking at different levels across the UK. Of all the restaurants across the UK, approximately 10% are of a standard which is worthy of one Rosette and above.

Hotel Manager Nathan George said ” We are, naturally delighted to receive our first AA Rosette which shows that our policy of using the best local produce we can source paid dividends. It is also testament to our hard work and creativity of staff”.

Overlooking the beautiful Harrogate Stray, an open area of 200 acres of parkland right in the centre of this historic spa town, this contemporary boutique hotel has been transformed from the original Victorian coach house into 25 spacious and luxurious bedrooms and suites.

With a spacious restaurant providing all day dining with an extensive breakfast menu, the West Park afternoon tea experience, and an a la carte menu for more formal dining occasions.

The Big Yorkshire Breakfast

The Big Yorkshire Breakfast

On Tuesday 26th January The Carpenters Arms, Felixkirk hosted The Big Yorkshire Breakfast event. A full breakfast was served from 8.00am with last orders at 11.00am in aid of the Addington Fund, a national farming charity.

Ian Bell, Chief Executive for the Addington Fund announced during the breakfast that as a consequence of the severe flooding in the north, all funds from the breakfast would be directed to the North of England Flood Fund.

£8,325,00 was raised at the event through anonymous donations. The Carpenters Arms’ Chris Blundell commented, “We are absolutely delighted to be able to help raise much needed funds for the Addington Fund and particularly the North of England Flood Fund by hosting this event. We all have friends and colleagues that have had a miserable Christmas and New Year as a result of the weather.

Michael Ibobtson, co-owner continued “All our pubs are located in rural areas within strong farming communities and so it follows many of our customers are farmers. With our approach to sourcing the best of local produce we have some very close relationships to this community.”

Michael Ibbotson added, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and yet so many of us simply leave for work without taking the time to sit down and eat. That is why at Provenance Inns we pay a lot of attention to our breakfast offering with a full breakfast buffet of juices, cereals, pastries, yoghurts and fruit in addition to a full A La Carte breakfast. When guests book a night away, it is one of the few times they take to sit and enjoy a good breakfast. Eating is such a social practice and has a crucial impact upon physical, social and mental health.”

This fundraising event was also kindly supported by Strutt & Parker and Barclays.

Best Hotel Interior Design Award

Best Hotel Interior Design Award

Style Contracts, the design company who, in collaboration with Averil Blundell Interior Design and Bowman Riley Architects, transformed the West Park into a stunning boutique restaurant, bar and hotel, have received the prestigious Best Hotel Interior Design award at the recent Northern Design Awards held on 21st November 2014.

Katie McCarthy, design director for Style Contracts said…

“Flanked by boutique shops and a gourmet deli, this site was in a prime location and needed to reflect the prestigious nature of the Stray. With a sophisticated population in Harrogate and the association of a destination spa town, luxury and comfort were key shapers of our design. Style Contracts developed and manufactured bespoke restaurant, bar and bedroom furniture along with the bar areas and specialist joinery products. Super long chesterfields gave a plush feel for dining in the bar and mobile booth seating suited the client’s need to change around the layouts.

For the bedrooms, we designed and produced bespoke furniture to create a luxury town house feel – deeply padded fluted headboards, bespoke armchairs, coffee tables with turned legs and desk drawers fronted in stone veneers. The wooden finishes were all painted in a classic Farrow and Ball grey to create a calm feel to the rooms and unify the 9 schemes for the client’s own chosen bedroom fabrics.

Provenance Inns have an award winning reputation as a traditional Yorkshire inn collection so we were keen to bring a hint of traditionalism to the concept. We created a bespoke design fretwork with a gentlemanly style circular pattern which is the feature wall upon entering the restaurant. This was echoed in the reception desk and the bar frontage. A former alleyway with stone archways was incorporated into the restaurant with brass orb lights reminiscent of traditional street lighting. A wine wall with a backdrop of natural stone referencing Yorkshire’s countryside stone dry walls encloses a library of wine lockers to give a sense of home for the regular customer with a taste for more expensive wines and spirits.

A wall feature inspired by the Harrogate Stray was designed and fabricated, with abstract leaf patterns laser cut out of corten steel. Corten steel was chosen to juxtapose against the traditional elements already present in the design. Once artificially rusted it created a beautiful rust marbled into the duller tones of the corten. In front of this, we hung cage pendants and individual laser cut filigree style copper oak leaves intertwining amongst the cables to create a modern chandelier whilst bringing aspects of the iconic stray parkland into play.”
